QuestionWhat is the iVue Network?
AnswerThe iVue Network is a city-owned and operated service that will eventually offer the three most important digital services to homes and businesses:

The City of Bellevue is building the iVue Network in order to bring competitive services and prices to Bellevue, and put our city on par with large urban areas when it comes to digital services. The iVue Network will help local businesses compete in a global economy and will help our residents have the same kind of access to services that people from Iowa’s urban centers get.

Question When will I be able to get these services?
AnswerBellevue is building the network on a “phased deployment.” What that means is, we will build the infrastructure one block at a time, and additional services will become available as the iVue Network expands.

There are maps displayed at the Library and City Hall showing the planned construction of the iVue Network. However, if a certain neighborhood or area of town has a high number of households signed up for service, we will change our deployment plan to “build where the demand is.”

The initial service offered will be high-speed Internet connection. Over the next few months we will also be adding digital telephone service and digital TV service through the single iVue Network connection.

QuestionWhat do the iVueWebconnect “download speed” numbers mean?
AnswerThe numbers are a measurement of how many megabytes per second your connection will theoretically transfer from an Internet server to your computer. The numbers themselves aren’t all that important, what matters is how they apply to the things you'll do on the Internet.

Here’s a comparison chart of typical Internet activities:

Internet Connection Speed Time it takes to load a typical web page Time it takes to download a 5-minute song
56K dial-up modem 14 seconds 12 minutes, 30 seconds
2 MBs (iVueHomeConnect, iVueOfficeConnect2) 0.4 second 20 seconds
4 MBs (iVueOfficeConnect4) 0.1 second 5 seconds

QuestionWhy are the “upload speed” numbers different than “download speed” on some plans?

AnswerMost things people do online involve downloading files, whether it’s visiting Web pages, looking at videos or downloading music. Many businesses, however, use the Internet for things like transferring a PowerPoint presentation to a sales person who’s away from the office or sending files to clients.

For those businesses, “Upload Speed” becomes important, so our business plans offer faster uploads to make speed activities that require uploads.
